REVISED-Logistics for Confirmation Mass
Congratulations on your upcoming Confirmation! You are less than a week out. I know I sent a previous email with logistics, but please read this one instead as some of the information from the previous email has changed.
Please read the entire email, and communicate what is in this email with your sponsor.
The Confirmation Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Emeritus Kicanas at the cathedral (St. Augustine Cathedral 192 S Stone Ave, Tucson, AZ 85701). There is free parking available in the cathedral lot as well as metered parking on the street. The Mass will start promptly at 7 pm.
Please arrive by 6:15 pm
to find parking and to take pictures with the Bishop before Mass if you choose to do so.
Bishop Kicanas will be available for pictures on the altar from roughly 6:15-6:45 pm if you would like. This is the only scheduled time you (and your sponsor) can take pictures with him.
The second, third, and fourth row on the right side of the Cathedral when you enter from the back, (by the Guadalupe picture) will be reserved for St. Mark the Evangelist.
The pews are reserved only for candidates and sponsors.
There is open seating behind the reserved pews for additional family and friends that come to witness your sacrament.
When you get to the Cathedral go to the reserved pews for our parish and
check in with Mariallyn Oczak,
our Director of Special Needs. She will be at the Mass and will have your name tags for the Mass as well as your Confirmation certificates.
Your sponsor should sit directly next to you during the Mass. During the Rite of Confirmation when you are called up your sponsor should stand and process directly behind you and should place their right hand on your right shoulder.
Rite of Confirmation
During the Rite of Confirmation, you will be called forward and will stand directly in front of the Bishop with your sponsor behind you. The Bishop will read your name tag with your Confirmation Saint name on it. (Mariallyn will have name tags for you for the Confirmation Mass.) Please make sure you are wearing your name tag and that it is visible for Bishop Kicanas.
When you are being confirmed, the Bishop will say "
your saint name
, be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit." Your response is "Amen." Then the Bishop will say "Peace be with you," and you will respond "and with your spirit." The Bishop will then shake your hand. After this, you will return to your seat and the Mass will continue as normal.
Please dress modestly, for a special occasion. Men are encouraged to wear slacks with a shirt and tie. Women are encouraged to wear a dress, or a nice blouse with a skirt/slacks.
Your Confirmation certificates will be given to you by Mariallyn after the Mass. Please do not leave without your certificate!
If you have any additional questions about the Mass please do not hesitate to contact me.
Blessings to you on your upcoming Sacrament,
